The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs' Business Advice page is a gateway to a huge amount of advice for business people whether they be manufacturers or retailers. Includes information on advertising, door-to-door sales, lay-by sales, refunds, selling, shop lifting, uncollected goods, warranties, customer satisfaction, complaints, e-commerce, being a landlord, licensing & registration and registering a business name.

The Business Gateway is a service provided by the Department of Trade and Economic Development. It describes South Australia's competitive advantages for business, provides summaries of the State's major industries and outlines the State's regions and their investment opportunities. Fact sheets and maps are available for downloading, as well as news briefs providing the latest business and economic developments in the State. An Events Calendar lists workshops and seminars for business owners.

Incorporation is a voluntary, simple and inexpensive means of establishing a legal entity. It is an alternative to forming a company limited by guarantee or a co-operative, and is particularly suitable for small, community based groups. Except as may be provided in the rules of the association, incorporation provides a limited liability for members. Associations are administered by the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs.

A co-operative is an entity voluntarily owned and controlled by the people for whom it was established and who use its services. A co-operative may be formed for the provision of goods or services to its members or for the supply of goods or services to the general public.

[DI-09] If you have registered a business name in South Australia, you are required to renew that name every three (3) years or cancel the business name. A renewal notice is issued one month prior to the expiry date. Please note: failure to renew on or before the expiry date will incur a late fee.
