The following educational resources can be borrowed free of charge from the
Energy Advisory Service.

Energy Education Trailer
The Energy Education Trailer is a mobile interactive display that demonstrates key aspects of home energy efficiency.
Displays include:
- energy efficient lighting
- water efficient shower heads
- solar electricity.
The trailer is suitable for all ages and needs to be supervised during use.
It is regularly borrowed by teachers across South Australia to teach aspects of the sustainability curriculum and for also for school events.
The trailer is most effective used outdoors to demonstrate the solar panels working.
Before requesting the trailer, check that it is available using the calendar below and that you have adequate space at your chosen location.
The trailer dimensions closed are:
Length: 3.95m

Solar explorer kit
The solar explorer kit is a fun, hands on resource for students of all ages to discover how to generate and measure electricity from the sun.
The solar explorer kit contains:
- solar panel
- three small appliances - a light, fan and buzzer
- compass
- ammeter
- volt meter.
The teacher's resource contains information to help students learn about:
- solar technology
- greenhouse effect
- energy use.

Home Energy Toolkit
The home energy toolkit is a comprehensive home energy auditing kit that can be used as part of the sustainability curriculum. The toolkit includes:
- A comprehensive home energy auditing manual
- A power-meter
- A compass
- Two thermometers
- A stopwatch
The Department for Education and Childhood Development have a pool of kits that teachers can borrow on request, see below.

Energy education trailer, solar explorer kit and other resources
Step 1: Download and fill out the
energy resource loan request form (Word 96KB). Printed copies are available from the
Energy Advisory Service by request.
If you would like to borrow the energy education trailer, please check the availability calendar above to ensure it is available for the dates you request.
Step 2: Email the completed form to
dtei.energyadvice@sa.gov.au as far in advance as you can to loan date. You can also fax the form to 8204 1880.
Step 3: Once received the Energy Advisory Service will contact you to confirm availability and the booking and arrange pick up and delivery.
Please note that submitting a request form does not guarantee a booking. If the resources you request are not available, the Energy Advisory Service will try, wherever possible, to offer an alternative item or date.
