Hazard perception test

You’ll need to pass the hazard perception test before you can progress from a P1 to a P2 provisional licence.

The hazard perception test (HPT) is a computer-based test that measures your ability to recognise potentially dangerous situations when driving and react appropriately.

Preparing for the hazard perception test

You can attempt the hazard perception test if you are eligible to progress to a P2 provisional licence

Practise the hazard perception test on the My Licence website. You will see film clips of real driving situations and will be asked to respond to these situations by clicking your mouse.

To prepare for the test, read the Hazard Perception Test handbook carefully. You should have received one when you received your P1 provisional licence. Copies are available from a Service SA customer service centre or you can download a copy.
