Road responsibilities

State road network

The State Government through the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure manages around 25% of South Australia’s total road network, including:

  • 13,000 kilometres of sealed roads
  • 10,000 kilometres of unsealed roads.

Local Government is responsible for maintaining 75,000 kilometres of local roads.

Federal responsibilities

The Australian Government through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government supports continued improvement to our road transport infrastructure.
