If you are temporarily visiting South Australia you may drive using your interstate driver’s licence. You must adhere to all conditions your licence/permit is issued under in your state, as well as the conditions applicable in South Australia.

New residents

New residents must apply for a licence and register their vehicles in South Australia within three months of arrival.

Applying for a South Australian driver’s licence

Step 1: Complete the application form for a driver's licence/learner's permit and surrender of interstate licence (if applicable).

Step 2: Go to a Service SA customer service centre with the following documents:

Step 3: After you have paid the licence fee and your photograph has been taken, you will be given a temporary driver's licence. Your photo licence will be posted to you within one week.
