Replacing a driver's licence

If your driver's licence, provisional licence or learner's permit is damaged, lost or stolen, you need to apply for a replacement.

When applying, you have two options depending on the last time you had your photo taken on your current licence or permit.

Your driver's licence photograph is valid for 10 years so you can apply for a replacement licence online based on the expiry date of your photograph.

For example: If your photograph was taken within the last three years, you may be able to replace your licence for up to seven years either online or in person without having a new photograph taken.

Option 1

If you don't need a new photograph taken you can apply for a replacement licence online and pay with your Visa or MasterCard.

Option 2

If you do need a new photograph taken you will need to attend a Service SA customer service centre with your evidence of identity and payment as well as have a new photograph taken.

An application for replacement driver's licence (PDF 144KB) must be completed if you apply in writing or in person at a Customer Service Centre. A fee of $17.00 is applicable.

If you live in an area that is not serviced by a Service SA customer service centre or you are unable to attend a customer service centre call 13 10 84.
