You should receive a boat registration renewal notice in the mail approximately six weeks before it is due to expire.
To renew the registration, follow the instructions printed on the notice or go to
how to renew your boat registration below.
If you have not received a renewal notice, follow one of the four steps below to renew your motor boat, or complete the
application for registration renewal of a motor boat and return it to a Service SA
customer service centre with the appropriate
fee.
Please note the following:
- check that the renewal notice is correct and it is for your boat
- boat registration is for 12 months only. No seasonal or short-term registration is available
- no concessions are available.
It is an offence to operate a recreational vessel that doesn't have a current registration label atttached, unless:
- the required fee for the registration has been paid and
- you have not yet received the label and
- no more than 21 days have passed since the fee was paid.
There are four easy ways to renew your boat registration.
Select the option under the recreational boating heading and follow the prompts. Make sure you check the details carefully to confirm you are renewing the correct boat.
You will need to enter the 7 digit payment number printed on the renewal notice. If you do not have the renewal notice, you will need to enter the boat registration number, hull type and your surname.
If you require assistance to use this service, telephone 13 10 84 between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday.
2. Telephone 1300 363 805 between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday
You will need to provide the registration number, name of the registered owner and some of your boat details to the operator. This information is shown on your certificate of motor boat registration or invitation to renew boat registration.
Payment is accepted by cash, cheque, debit card, MasterCard, Visa, money order or a travellers cheque in Australian currency. You will no longer receive your label from the Service SA customer service centre operator when you pay in person. Instead you will receive a receipt for your fee paid and your new registration label will be posted to you.
Your motor boat registration label will be posted to your recorded postal address, usually within 10 working days. When you register your vessel, please make sure you have given us your correct and current address details.
NB: Boat and car licence and registration details are kept separately, so if you have changed your address for a motor vehicle registration or motor vehicle licence, you must also advise us to change your boat registration or boat licence details.
You can use your boat while you are waiting for your label for up to 21 days from the date of registration, provided:
- you have paid the appropriate fee for the boat registration, and
- you have not yet received the registration label, and
- no more that 21 days have passed since the fee was paid.
4. Return the renewal notice by mail
Post the completed renewal notice to the address printed on the front of the notice or to the nearest Service SA customer service centre.
Ensure you include payment by:
- cheque or money order, marked not negotiable and made payable to Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, or
- providing your MasterCard or Visa card details (card number, expiry month/year, and name of cardholder).
If your label does not arrive within 21 days, telephone 13 10 84 or go to a customer service centre and check your address details. If your address is correct and your label has still not arrived you will be issued a replacement label free of charge and will therefore have a further 21 days to use the vessel while you are waiting for the replacement.
