From 1 May 2012 the SA Housing Code will no longer be an acceptable construction manual. However, it will continue to be an acceptable construction manual for applications lodged for building rules consent prior to 1 May 2012. Volume Two of the Building Code of Australia with the SA variations will be the only regulatory document for house construction in South Australia. The guideline and mandatory maps that had been included in the Housing Code (design wind speed maps, an earthquake hazard map, corrosion environment maps, climate zone maps) can still be used to assist in applying the provisions of the Building Code of Australia.These items are available separately from the maps to assist with technical building issues webpage:

Minister's Specifications are either referenced in the Development Regulations 2008 or in the South Australian variations to the Building Code of Australia and relate to specific building issues that require attention in South Australia. To assist the building industry, the Building Policy branch develops and reviews these specifications.
