The proposal

The development proposal for a desalination plant by SA Water will be situated at Port Stanvac.

The project has a capital value of approximately $1.37 billion and comprises:

a desalination plant located at Port Stanvac with a rated capacity of 300 ML a day (100 GL per annum) based upon reverse osmosis technology
intake and outlet pipelines to draw raw seawater into the facility and discharge concentrate to the Gulf of St Vincent
electricity supplied from the grid, but sourced from renewable energy sources.

Port Stanvac was identified by the state’s desalination working group as the preferred site as part of a major investment in water infrastructure to secure South Australia’s water supply.
