Infection control

Hand hygiene is recognised world wide as one of the most effective hygiene practices to reduce infection. Find out more on the SA Health website.

The South Australian Infection Control Service also works with clinicians and the public to prevent infections associated with health care.

An A-Z list is provided on the Parenting and Child Health website and covers everything you need to know about:
  • infections
  • illnesses
  • amoebic meningitis
  • the common cold
  • worms.

Infectious diseases

Some infectious diseases are notifiable. In South Australia this means that the doctor and laboratory diagnosing this disease are required to report it by law, under the Public and Environmental Health Act 1987.

To notify the Communicable Disease Control Branch phone the South Australian Government Department of Health on 8226 7177.

Notification will ensure that steps are taken, where necessary, to prevent the spread of an infectious disease.
