The South Australian government tabled its initial response to this report in Parliament on 17 June 2008. The government has subsequently tabled an implementation report and four annual progress reports in Parliament. These reports are available to download.

Changes to child protection legislation
The Children’s Protection (Implementation of Report Recommendations) Amendment Act 2009 was passed by the South Australian Parliament on the 1 December 2009 and assented to on the 10 December 2009.
The Act is the government’s legislative response to key recommendations of the Mullighan Inquiry. The Act includes changes to the child safe environment obligations of non-government and local government organisations including introducing criminal history assessments for people working with children.
The changes commenced 1 January 2011. For more information see Child Safe Environments on the Department for Families and Communities website.
