Community support

Children with autism or Asperger syndrome

Support for young children with autism spectrum disorders is provided by Autism SA.

Information and support to families and carers of children aged zero to six is provided by autism advisors. Your child may also be eligible for therapy and treatment and autism advisors will help connect you to government-approved services.

The Early Intervention Service provides support for children up to six years, including:

  • playgroup
  • kindergarten
  • transition support
  • individual therapy programs.

Support in country SA

Autism SA provides some support in country South Australia. For information about support available in the country see the country services page on this site.

Private practitioners

Some private practitioners offer therapy and support to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These practitioners charge fees. For a list of practitioners, phone the Autism SA Info Line on 1300 288 476.

Fees and Medicare rebates

If you have an autism advisor, you may get some assistance to pay the fees. Some Medicare rebates are also available. For more information phone the Autism SA Info Line on 1300 288 476 or Medicare on 132 011.

Support for parents

Support for parents with young children with autism spectrum disorders is provided by the Flinders University. Information about the Early Intervention Research Program can be found on the Flinders University website.

Other support networks

Children's Centres for Early Childhood Development and Parenting. These centres offer many services for young children and families, such as family support and therapy services.
