Volunteering with the aged

Aged care workers and volunteers working directly with vulnerable people are required to have a police check to assess their suitability for working with frail elderly Australians.

Information about police checks for aged care workers and volunteers and a fact sheet on police checks in aged care is provided by the Department of Health and Ageing.

If a police check is needed, the organisation should seek the individual’s permission and, if possible organise the police check on their behalf. The South Australian Government provides free police checks for volunteers who work with vulnerable groups.
