The
Recreational Services (Limitation of Liability) Act 2002 provides a level of protection to recreational service providers. Under the Act, recreational service providers are able to submit a safety code for a particular recreational activity - eg horse riding. The safety code is required to include the level of protection it will provide for consumers.
Service providers only benefit from the Act if they comply with the registered safety code.
The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) website holds a
register of safety codes and registered providers.
Please note: the
Recreational Services (Limitation of Liability) Act 2002 is due for repeal in mid 2010. For more information see the Recreational Services
discussion paper posted by OCBA.
