Occupational Health Safety and Welfare

All organisations who have paid staff or volunteers must take reasonable care to avoid the injury of people who may enter their premises, under South Australian legislation.

Organisations meet their OHS&W responsibilities by:

  • implementing a risk management plan
  • making sure that supervisors and managers are adequately skilled to show volunteers how to perform their work safely and without injury
  • appointing a representative to receive accredited training to help their organisation satisfy legal obligations under OHS&W laws
  • appointing a First Aid Officer and Fire Warden with the appropriate accredited training
  • electing a health and safety representative and enuring they have the appropriate accredited training.
Each organisation must also appoint and train a responsible officer

For information about your organisation’s OHS&W requirements and any training subsidies your organisation may be eligible to receive contact SafeWork SA
