The South Australian Carer Recognition Awards are presented annually during Carers Week in October.
The awards acknowledge businesses and organisations that provide outstanding responses to carers. A carer, for the purposes of the SA Carers Recognition Act 2005 and for these awards, is a person who provides ongoing care and assistance to family or a friend who has disability, a chronic illness (including mental illness) or who is frail.
Initiatives may include:
- Making GP visits easier for carers.
- A workplace policy that recognises the need for flexibility and that caring demands can be sporadic.
- An organisation that provides a unique and effective service to carers.
- A service or program that recognises carers face physical demands and supports them to have time out.
- A business going out of their way to help carers in their role.
If you know of an initiative that deserves to be recognised for the 2012 Awards, nominate it.
Nominations can be made in a number of ways from 1 May until 13 July 2012. For more information see Award nominations.
