If you are starting a business there are several requirements you need to know about.
If you carry on business under a name other than your own real name (without additions) you must register that name as a business name.
Registering for an ABN is not compulsory but you will need one to register for the GST.
If you carry on an enterprise, which includes a business, you must register for GST if your GST turnover is $75,000 or more ($150,000 or more for non-profit organisations).
You may require licences to operate your business in South Australia. The Business Licence Information Service (BLIS) is a free service that provides details of all licences you may need.
