Overview

Licences for geothermal activity are administered under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 and Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Regulations 2000.

Environmental regulation

The Act authorises geothermal activities, provided there is appropriate protection of the environment, social values and existing land uses. Issues relating to land-owners and native title, protected areas, proclaimed parks and regional reserves are set out on the PIRSA website.
