Overview

There are currently 11 different categories of licences available under the Liquor Licensing Act 1997.

The Liquor and Gambling Commissioner is responsible for administering the Act, the purpose of which is to regulate and control the sale, supply and consumption of liquor for the benefit of related industries and the South Australian public.

The Commissioner places particular emphasis on encouraging responsible attitudes towards the promotion and advertising of liquor and minimising the harm associated with liquor consumption.

The Commissioner may refer certain matters for hearing and determination by the Licensing Court. The division of responsibilities between the Commissioner and the Licensing Court are set out on the CBS website.
