Overview

The licensing of bookmakers and agents in South Australia is the responsibility of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner.  The Commissioner is also responsible for the scrutiny of the TAB, on-course totalizators and bookmaker betting operations.

The Commissioner issues permits to bookmakers to enable them to accept bets at racecourses and other venues.

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) collects government tax payments from SATAB and unclaimed dividends from racing clubs and bookmakers on behalf of the South Australian Government.

In assisting the Commissioner to meet legislative obligations, the CBS conducts regular compliance inspections and audits of individual licensees such as SATAB, SA racing clubs, bookmakers and agents.

It also has regular contact with industry bodies such as Thoroughbred Racing SA, Harness Racing SA, Greyhound Racing SA and the SA Bookmakers' League.
