Prequalify for government work

The South Australian Government is the single largest and most regular purchaser of goods and services from the building and construction industry in the State.

Government agencies spend substantial amounts of money each year on capital works, minor works and maintenance, including professional fees.

With this large purchasing power the State Government recognises it has responsibilities and obligations to the taxpayer and the industry to ensure:
  • building and construction companies are known to government
  • contracts go to companies demonstrating the best industry practices
  • continuous improvement is practised in the industry as a whole.

Prequalification process

There is a prequalification process for contractors wishing to tender for building and construction projects.

Prequalification is for:

  1. professional service contractors - professional or para-professional businesses who carry out the design and management functions of projects to meet agency requirements
  2. construction contractors - businesses or individuals who contract with agencies to carry out physical building and construction work.

However, registration is not a guarantee that any contracts will be awarded.

The types of work available, including major and minor building construction projects, building maintenance, property services and government accommodation, can be found on the State Government's building management website.

You can also register as a pre-qualified service or construction contractor.
