Commencement of works

If you intend starting certain types of work in South Australia you must first notify SafeWork SA.

This is required under the Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare Act, 1986.

What is notifiable work?

There are several types of notifable work, including:
  • work involving the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance or cleaning of a structure, where a crane or scaffolding is used in connection with the performance of that work.
  • work involving the demolition or partial demolition of a structure that is more than six metres high.
  • excavation work, if an excavation formed by the work is more than 1.5 metres high when measured from the bottom of the excavation and:
    (i) the excavation is capable of permitting the entry of a person; or
(ii) there is a possibility that a person involved in the performance of the work, or in the vicinity of any excavation or excavation work, could be injured from a fall or dislodgment of soil or rock.
