All properties in South Australia that run one or more horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer, alpacas, buffaloes, donkeys, camels, mules and llamas must have a Property Identification Code (PIC).
Registration applies to all properties where these animals are kept, including rural, peri-urban and suburban properties.
Property registration is mandatory under the Livestock Act 1997 and is part of a national agreement to maintain a register of the locations of livestock, and owner/manager contact details.
The PIC information is used in the event of an exotic disease outbreak such as equine influenza and other emergencies affecting animals, including bushfires.
The PIC is also used in combination with the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) and the various species brands - pigs, sheep and cattle.
Cost of registration
Registration costs $76 per property for a two-year period.
Registration of poultry enterprises is currently optional and no fee is payable if you do choose to register.
