Another training option open to employers is school-based traineeships and apprenticeships. This allows students to work towards a nationally recognised qualification while finishing their high school studies.
The school must agree and you need to enter into a
training contract with the student and, if they are under 18, a parent or guardian as well. The same conditions and obligations apply as with all other traineeships or apprenticeships.
Benefits for employers
The advantages of taking on a school-based apprentice include:
- an injection of youth into your business
- making a valuable contribution to the community by providing a young person with work skills
- participating in nationally-recognised training
- advancing and cultivating staff with up-to-date industry knowledge
- assisting with recruitment and succession planning.
