Electricity annual report
The Office of the Technical Regulator’s operations are reported to the Minister annually and are conducted under the requirements of the:
The electricity annual report covers areas such as:
- Safety, reliability and technical management of the electricity supply industry including the generation of renewable energy, risks assessment and emergency management.
- Auditing of electrical installations, major incidents and investigations, electrical shock reports and disciplinary actions taken by the Office as well as communicative and educational functions such as roadshows and technical committees.
- Vegetation and building clearances from electrical infrastructure, vegetation clearance complaints and exemptions to restrictions on planting near powerlines.
- Product safety and safety approvals for electrical appliances, risks posed by faulty or misused appliances, appliance failures, recalls, stop sales and all corrective actions taken by the Office.
- Consumer safety awareness, continuous safety promotion, awareness raising and education as well as electrical safety surveys.
- Regulatory coordination such as licensing and the functioning of the Technical Advisory Committee, Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council and the Energy Industry Ombudsman.

Gas annual report
Section 14 of the Gas Act 1997 requires the technical Regulator to report to the Minister on the operations conducted under the Act.
The gas annual report covers a range of areas including:
- Gas supply industry, safety of supply infrastructure, safety audits of and technical compliance in the supply industry, gas incidents (infrastructure), public complaints and technical matters.
- Natural gas and LPG installations (residential, industrial and commercial), mobile installations, compliance audits and their results, gas certificates of compliance, enforcement activities and non-compliant installations, gas incidents (installations) and disciplinary actions.
- Natural gas and LPG appliances, safety certifications, appliance and component recalls and uncertified gas appliances.
- Consumer safety awareness, continuous safety promotion, awareness raising and education as well as electrical safety surveys.
- Gas supply emergency management and national approaches to the shortfalls of gas supply.
- Regulatory coordination of safety and technical standards and inter-organisational relationships within Australia as well as trans-Tasman relationships.
