Every year, the Office of the Technical Regulator presents a number of technical sessions for gas and electrical workers and contractors in metropolitan and regional areas of South Australia.

Electrical roadshows are held annually by the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) and is supported by the Office of the Technical Regulator. The Office of the Technical Regulator uses these sessions to educate the industry members on:
- changes to the Australian wiring rules
- topics related to electrical installations
- the Electricity Act and regulations.

Gas technical sessions
Gas technical sessions are organised by the Plumbing Industry Association of South Australia (PIA). The PIA also arranges venuse and bookings for the sessions. The training and updates are provided by the Office of the Technical Regulator.
Sessions normally take two and a half to four hours and all gas workers and contractors in the state are invited to attend.
The sessions cover a number of areas and their content is reviewed and updated every year. They include topics such as:
- audit feedback
- incident feedback
- appliance and component recalls
- safety notices
- changes to legislations and standards
- problem solving scenarios
- new methods and materials.

Core discussion – gas
A core subject is discussed at length each year. The subjects are selected based on audit feedback and include areas of poor performance.
Core subjects discussed in the last few years include:
- natural gas and LPG characteristics and properties
- combustion principles
- unflued heaters and ventilation
- pipe sizing
- appliance fluing and ventilation with an emphasis on commercial installations
- selection of LPG regulators and overpressure protection devices
- installation of pressure proving devices.

Gas workshops
The technical sessions may be followed by a practical workshop conducted by Plumbing Industry Association or a product manufacturer. Although the workshops fees are usually subsidised by the Construction Industry Training Board, an entry fee may still apply for the workshops.
Currently, the attendance fee is $25.00 for PIA members and $40.00 for non-members.
