Key info
The South Australian Dental Service was formed in 1982 through the amalgamation of the Adelaide Dental Hospital and the School Dental Service. Prior to 1982 the Adelaide Dental Hospital was a department of the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the School Dental Service was a branch of the South Australian Health Commission. The South Australian Dental Service is now a division of the Department of Health. The formation of the South Australian Dental Service has overcome the previous fragmentation of public dental services in South Australia and has encouraged the development of policies aimed at meeting the oral health needs of the whole population.
