As a response to the increased need for information, support and care for people with dementia, their carers and families South Australia's Dementia Action Plan 2009-2012 - Facing the Challenges Together (PDF 476KB) (Word 2MB) was jointly developed by the Office for the Ageing (through Disability, Ageing and Carers branch) and SA Health.

Relevant Government departments and the community were consulted during the plan's development and the plan has been created in line with:

Working closely with Alzheimer's Australia (SA), Disability, Ageing and Carers branch and SA Health are responsible for monitoring state and regional progress.

Regional dementia action plans

To support the implementation of South Australia's Dementia Action Plan 2009-2012, Disability, Ageing and Carers branch and SA Health have consulted with service providers and key stakeholders across each of the six State Government regions to develop a regional dementia action plan specific to each region.

These plans identify service demand and gaps for each region, appropriate service providers, and a number of actions to improve the services provided for people with dementia, their carers and families.
